It shouldn’t. Inside we recommend using a countertop collection unit in the kitchen to collect daily and then dropping it in your 5 gallon bucket each night. Outside the house, we swap out your 5-gallon barrel and wash it out it each week, so that also will be fine.

Pick on that fits your style and space, as well as it’s functionality. If you are going to empty daily a glass bowl will do. Just fill it during the day then at night when doing the dishes dump in your outdoor 5-gallon bucket. If you preference is to keep on the counter a few days there are some nice ones that can sit on your countertop. Just make sure you choose one that opens easily, closes tightly, and the lid flips all the way back for ease of emptying into your 5-gallon bucket. Lots of choices out there for around $25.

We are currently servicing areas in Nashua and some bordering Hollis areas. However, we do have a drop service that you may use off of Broad St.

We understand that any additional cost can be a burden and want you to still be able to participate, so have a few ideas/options. Organize your neighborhood and we will develop a custom plan around 2 or more homes or apartments. If you are a family that wants to teach your children and you participate in any of the following: WIC, SNAP, school food assistance for your child, pantries, let us know and we have some funds set aside to offer the service at a minimal rate. You could set up a compost tumbler in your backyard, solar composter with just a hole in the ground, or bury small amounts throughout your garden. A vermicompost unit is also fairly easy to create or purchase and worms will eat up to their body weight every day! There are many ways to participate. Just make sure it is and easy set-up and go for it!

You could consider the bi-weekly pickup or even our self-serve drop station where you can come whenever your bucket is full. A 5-gallon bucket holds a lot so you could also talk to your neighbor about sharing a bin :) Do it yourself! For home, find a type of bin you like or select from the many models on the internet. Pick one that’s easy to use and just do it!
